New Track from Fingers Lift

Now that it looks like Things Falling Apart has finally fallen apart, eyes turn to its members' solo projects and spinoffs. Bass and trumpet player Brandon Welch has been developing his project for well over a year and now the new group, named Fingers Lift, is up on MySpace complete with a new track: "Lonesome Flotsom." For many of us this is the first time hearing this new music, a dreamy, reverb drenched take on Americana (I'm going to go ahead and call it "Space Folk," just to see if that catches on). As an added bonus for TFA fans, look at the lineup: TFA Mk. III member Tim Walker on lap steel and guitar, TFA Mk. IV member Ryan Green on organ and keyboards, and appearances by TFA member Ben Aldis on drums and former TFA violinist Nat Kundanis-Grow on violin. Those looking for the Godspeed-finds-a-melody post-rock of TFA will be disappointed, but those looking for something a little different will find a pleasant soundtrack for a hot summer's day. The new album from Fingers Lift is forthcoming on Bad Elk Records. - Bill

Melt-Banana at Club Firestone

Japanese noise-rock combo Melt-Banana blew some eardrums last night at Club Firestone. Apparently they were so intense a fight broke out! Unfortunately none of our staff could make it (I had family obligations), so we'd love it if you stopped in to tell us about it. We have most of their albums in stock, and I'll be spinning their music throughout the day. So stop in: I just got done spinning Cactuses Come In Flocks, so I'm pretty lonely. ;) - Bill
